Historically represented in Chinese and Japanese literature and art, the Mandarin Duck shares a similar affinity for wooded rivers and ponds as its North American cousin, the Wood Duck. Like their cousin, Mandarin ducks nest in tree cavities and have benefited from nest box programs.
